Delete the war hound pet mod out of your DS2 'resources' folder. ******************************************************************************** * Mod Features This mod not only offers a fully elaborated pet, since Beta 8 there is also a litte mini-quest. Well, please don't expect too much, it's me first DS2 quest at all and there are some places this flick-based quest could be improved of course. However, at a hidden location (...can something be called 'hidden' on that tight map...!?) there is a simple task to solve. Please note, to provide multi-language support it may appear that the dialogues with the War Hound are a bit choppy sometimes (...you know, conversations with pets are generally not so easy *wink*) but i have tried to get them as fluid as possible. ******************************************************************************** * Pet Description The War Hound is a solid melee pet for combat and will be available at Eirulan as soon as you have solved the dire wolf quest. But be warned, the war hound won't be a 'hyper' (cheat) pet, it never was intended to be! It will die as other pet's too, and sometimes the Mythrilhorn pet may be the better choice. Be warned in an other way too, some features are negative! - Not to bother you generally, the pet just is addicted to war thus do not expect a bimdo pet you can use 'lap' as prefix. That's why i recommend you to buy the war hound around level 20, if you get it earlier it will probably be a burden - Have i already mentioned the pet can be taken sick...!? Thus if you are looking for a killer-pet - well, wrong mod here, sorry... You really should generate a big couriousness, as it a game beta tester has. On one hand some things won't work as expected (for your entertainment!?) and on the other hand because this pet mod just is still work in progress. ;=) ******************************************************************************** * The War Hound 'Saga' Morden-Gral Mages have learnd more and more about the races out of the Magic Rifts and have begun to merge dire wolves and nawl beasts to get a very powerful beast to support them in the fight against the dryads. To improve its aggressivity morden mages have implented scorpion thorns in the pet's back and head and have raised it with blood instead of wolf milk. Many of these new born creatures haven't survived that torture and some of them still suffer the consequences... It took some time but the Morden-Gral Mages reconized that War Hounds were quite difficult to tame and maybe no pet for rough and brutal owners as Morden normally are. Moreover - in their eyes - this pet was just too tiny and delicate to appeal honour to the Morden's complacent attitude. Thus they banished many of these actually glorious animals out of their camps or even slew them down in fear they could face once in battle towards a teeth-baring muzzle striving for revenge. ******************************************************************************** * My Motivation Originally i just liked to have a smarter Dire Wolf that performs more cooperative within my little 1-hero-with-1-pet-partyies. Generally this meant he should keep away troubles from my archer or mage and some kind of provoking feature as melee chars or the Mythirlhorn pet have seemed very desirable to protect my rather fragile chars. However i liked to stick with a two-men-party, also i did not want to wait almost until the end of mecenary mode to get a provoking pet. So after several Dire Wolf revisions a new pet turned out. While it just was initially a recombination of existing pet proprieties and effects, the new pet soon started to adapt more exclusive and unique features. - This was the beginning of the 'War Hound'. ******************************************************************************** * Recent Updates Beta 10p (20-Jul-2019): - Tunings for actor/pet names and their translations. - Content update to prevent conflicts with other mods. - Minor look/textures related upgrades. Beta 10o (9-May-2013): - Critical fix for an non-interactive game scene that could crash the game. - Work-around some containers that didn't drop their loot at the right place. Beta 10n (15-Oct-2012): - Potential attack speed problem solved (caused by a minor content conflict with newer releases of the Hotfix resp. Aranna Legacy mod). - Mini-quest revised: Little NIS added, minor radar problem solved, and skill point reward limited to 1 for all difficulty modes (mercenary, veteran or elite). - Several map enhancements/secrets tuned not to resist permanently in the memory if loaded once. - Some code portions improved to be more SE2-friendly. Beta 10m (25-Nov-2009): - Vulnerability fixed for Dire Wolf quest that crept in during a recent upgrade and that made the quest to fail if you saved the game in the short period between the conversation with Rokhar at the Rift and the moment the battle really started. Now it's possible to save the game anytime, however you have to repeat the whole rift battle in the next session. - Monster conversion revised. The chance that an akin monster (Kurgan or Nawl Beast) will spontaneously subordinate is some lower and the time of being loyal has been limited to 900s. However the War Hound's version of the 'Howl' power is able now to resurrect akin monsters, with a 30-50% chance (growth depending) they become living and loyal, otherwise they remain dead. Remind maybe that boss monsters never will subordinate, also they can't be resurrected. - Potential lack fix how resistances for War Hounds are accounted. Beta 10L (2-Oct-2009): - Converted monsters (must be akin to war hounds) indicate now with a green-blue flashing icon that they like to be healed, while a steady blue icon means that they have died, then only War Hound's power 'Howl' is able to call them back from the realm of the dead. - Compatibility problem fixed between the 'reward barrel' from the mini-quest and the barrel respawning feature from Hotfix Mod resp. Aranna Legacy Mod. - Hiring the liberated War Hound (mini-quest, South Greilyn Jungle) works now too in v2.3/addon (supposed your party doesn't count 6 members yet). Beta 10k (21-Feb-2008): - Bug fixed that was able sometimes to freeze the game when opening custom loot containers. - New placement settings for some containers that were hardly reachable/touchable. - Minor tunings to avoid compatibilty-matters with other mods. - Obsolete test reports removed. Beta 10i/j (27-Jan-2008): - Work-arounds added to increase v2.3/BW-compatibility, in particular related on the mini-quest(s) where a War Hound offers to join your party. Nevertheless please ensure that you have made a manual savegame backup first, without a compatible toolkit the v2.3/BW-internals are quite intransparent... - Pet disease play revised. Now general pet fixes for DS2 (also form other mods) won't trigger the disease play accidentally too. - The War Hound's behaviour tuned since it wasn't very obedient. Well in 'rampage' mode the pet still will be very feisty, in 'mirror' mode however the pet will follow your orders much better now. The behaviour also depends a bit on how you have feeded the pet, eg. in 'mirror' mode an *idle* a War Hound with a lot of strength may be disposed much erlier to leave the formation to attack an enemy. - Dire Wolf quest partially revised mainly to ensure that a killed or converted rift beast will be accounted correctly (the old method was rather vulnerable). - A little secrect added in the Southern Greilyn Jungle (not War Hound related). - One minor fix added for a general flaw in v2.2 within Finala's quest. Beta 10h (18-Aug-2007): - Reward barrel at the mini-quest is no longer selectable until the task has been completed. - Minor tunings on War Hound brain to work slightly faster. - Mod is tanked with official SE2 again - hopefully this will solve some rare disfunctions specially with v2.3/BW. Beta 10g (14-Jul-2007): - Sadly the minor fix of the rift quest in Beta 10f has proven to be insufficent. In order not to risk an unsolved quest please update your previous mod version. Beta 10f (20-May-2007): - Some changes in Beta 10d concerning the pet's growth bonuses have been revised, eg. in the emanation the physical resistance bonus resides again while the new life steal bonus has gone - although it would fit well it often didn't affect all party actors due to missing case discriminations in the current game rules. However for the pet itself it was possible to fix that lack proprietarly, thus the early growth bonus of '+7% belligerence' will include now 7% life stealing too besides of its original damage benefit. - Minor fix added for Dire Wolf quest, if a party member was a mature War Hound able to convert Nawl Beasts then sometimes the quest task was considered to be fulfielled too earlier resp. with living or not converted Nawl Beasts left. Beta 10e (11-May-2007): - Minor revision, no changes on the pet itself, however update recommanded. Beta 10d (25-Jan-2007): - War Hound brain/AI tuned to accord better with the superior AI of the party. - Some growth and emanation bonuses revised to fit better to the appearance of the hole pet and to make the pet a bit more steady in big groups of monsters where it will get (sooner or later) the full attraction of all monsters. - Work-around for some monster levels, independing if playing v2.2 or v2.3/BW their levels should now suit to the area where they are. Beta 10c (4-Nov-2006): - Minor tunings for map secrets: Monsters rebalanced, increased chance to obtain the skill point reward in the mini-quest, some ambient objects replaced/added. - Obsolete test files removed. Beta 10b (Oct-2007): - As far as tested all secrects at Kalrathia should work again. Map modifications at Aman'lu have been removed to be handle by Hotfix or Aranna Legacy mod. - Minor technical tunings. Beta 10a (Sep-2006): - Fixes a calculation error in 'Tree of Life' feature. Beta 10 (Sep-2006): - It's easier now to control the pet if it is the selected char of the party. - Drop chance for War Hound mini-quest in act 1 revised, now slightly higher. - Visual aura effect fixed when player's shader settings are on 'advanced'. - Cousins conversion featrure improved, the i'm-a-friend-of-you sign will now stay longer on converted connatural monsters - even if they are dead. In that context the reanimation feature for the War Hound's houl has been expanded, as before it will resurrect the party hero but now converted cousins too. - Work-around for DS2-common bug that a pet may suffer a stats reduction if dying. - Work-around for DS2-common bug that in singleplayer a pet may suffer a stats reduction if hero dies (supposed the party consists only of hero and pet(s)). - The War Hound automatically will re-select its native attack if needed. This will avoid the DS2-common bug that pets may loose the focus (this little margin) around the weapon/spell selection in the char/pet panel (on the left side of the screen) if the player is changing the weapon/spell selection for party members by *keys*. - The War Hound mod has been tuned now for 'Broken World' addon. Resistance values and description strings will look now the same independing if you play the addon, also quest monsters and secret containers automatically will adujst their monster level resp. the item level of dropping content according to the game/addon you are running the War Hound mod with.
