Q: | I'm a map maker creating currently a new map. Well the MonsterLevel Adjustment Mod is not really needed although there is an special area where i would like to get monster levels adjusted for sure regardless on player's setting or if he has the Rune of Mending. Can i place now myself the Rune of Mending in the center of that area?

Q: | I never have used mods before, how to install them?
A: | Generally most important is to make a manual back of your savegame first before using mods. Concerning the installation please read the instructions in the readme file. | Δ |
| ||
Q: | I want to make a backup of my singleplayer savegame. Where are the files that belong to it?
A: | Look at the folder: My Documents/My Games/Dungeon Siege 2 (Broken World)/Save/Singleplayer/YourHero Note, a singleplayer savegame consists of two files: YourHero.ds2party and YourHero.ds2radar | Δ |
| ||
Q: | How to activate this mod so that monsters and barrels/chests will be corrected towards my average party level?
A: | Exclusively for Erthos Struggle map this mod becomes active by default, also most custom maps (as far as known) using this mod will configure this mod themselves so you don't have to do anything. For other maps there are several ways to activate this mod as well, most elegant way is probably to be accompanied by a hovering 'Rune of Mending'. Additionally there is a custom configuration setting - but please see the readme about the option monster_adjust_world that is accepting a list of (internal) names of the maps you like to play. | Δ |
| ||
Q: | I don't like that my average party level is used for the monsters too - how to see then if I'm good in gaining character levels?
A: | Your level only will be used as reference if you are low-levelled or if you never have accessed a map before using this mod. On the longer term however this link will become obsolete more and more, and the better you fight or train your skills, the higher your level will become compare to the monsters. Technically actually the mod counts the monsters placed on the map and how much experience they may give - in a very similar way as a mapper would do to estimate the level progression. | Δ |
| ||
Q: | What are custom game configuration settings?
A: | They consists of an option name and a corresponding value. You can add such a setting in the command line of your DS2 shortcut or append it in the game *.ini file. | Δ |
| ||
Q: | The command line of the DS2 shortcut is too short! So where can i find this DS2
A: | It's close to your savegames: My Documents/My Games/Dungeon Siege 2/DungeonSiege2.ini And if you play DS2 with addon on it's: My Documents/My Games/Dungeon Siege 2 Broken World/DungeonSiege2BrokenWorld.ini This file has a simple structure and easily can be opened/edited by any text editor, but better take care a bit - it's an important file and making first a backup would be a good idea. | Δ |
| ||
Q: | What's the internal map name for Erthos Struggle map to setup this 'monster_adjust_world' option?
A: | Well for Erthos Struggle map this mod becomes active by default. Indeed it may be tricky sometimes to find out the internal name of a map, thus you can set monster_adjust_world=all to activate this mod everywhere - but take care, this mod is tuned for regular monsters and not for possibly manually edited monsters as used eg. for quests! | Δ |
| ||
Q: | Since installing the is mod there are little twinkling chewing gums dropping from the monsters. Can my char eat them?
A: | These balls are exp-jewels that contain any experience surplus caused by adjusting the monster's level, and thus the monster will drop them only casually. Disposing of unassigned exp may offer interesting perspectives but just take care that always the right weapon/spell is selected before picking up exp-jewels. And if you should get annoyed of them then set the option monster_adjust_ball_drop to false, please see the readme how/where to apply this setting. In total you will reward the same amount of exp regardless if exp-jewels are on/off. | Δ |
| ||
Q: | How will the exp of such a exp jewel shared among my party members?
A: | In the moment you pick up an exp jewel its exp will be shared equally across all party members and added to melee, ranged or nature/combat magic skill depending on the currently selected weapon/spell. Generally it works like a delayed hit and the 'sharing-mechanics' are the same as it usually happens in DS2. | Δ |
| ||
Q: | What to do if an exp-jewel drops or rolls onto a location I can't reach?
A: | Just hold your mouse cursor for 2 seconds on the body of the jewel (not on its label). | Δ |
| ||
Q: | What else is interesting to know about these exp-jewels?
A: | Practically, exp-jewels can also be transmuted to turn their exp into money if you need. Maybe if you wonder about exp-jewels generally - they have been introduced since reassigning the level-adjusted amount of exp wasn't possbile for a long time, and packing this exp into any kind of cup was the only way to pass it to the player. | Δ |
| ||
Q: | What's the 'Rune of Mending' and where do i get it?
A: | This rune is a special item that will follow you if you drop it out of your inventory. It's the ideal tool to casually adjust the levels of monsters, eg. when solving an old/'forgotten' secondary quests on GPG maps. You can buy this rune exclusively in the Magic Shop on Erthos Struggle map. Alternatively you could search the Shop area - who knows, maybe you find an abandoned one you can snatch. ;=) | Δ |
| ||
Q: | Is it possible to see anyhow if a monster's level has been upgraded or downgraded?
A: | The monster's screen name will show the adjustment for level and stats - supposed you set the option monster_adjust_declared on true. This is another option you may add in your DS2 shortcut or in the *.ini file of the game (see above, commented as well in the readme file). | Δ |
| ||
Q: | Are there any examples what to append at the DS2 .ini file?
A: | Two examples covering all player options currently available: monster_adjust_world = my_world,conan_world monster_adjust_difficulty = 90 monster_adjust_declared = true The .ini code above will adjust monster/container levels if the current map has the (internal) map name 'my_world' or 'conan_world'. Also the difficulty will be slightly lowered for these two maps and the monster's label will also show its original level too. monster_adjust_world = all monster_adjust_difficulty = 115 monster_adjust_ball_drop = false This .ini code will enforce adjusted monster/container levels for all maps - although it's not really recommended to enforce it due to hardly predictable consequences for some custom/quest monsters possibly, thus better backup your savegame regularly. The difficulty will be increased a bit for all maps and exp jewels/balls won't drop (to use the DS2-usual exp rewarding manner). | Δ |
| ||
Q: | My intention was it to play Mercenary mode on a custom map, and then continuing in Veteran or Elite mode on the official DS2 map - but I fear I won't be able to enter Veteran or Elite mode there!?
A: | On the primary/main map of DS2 there's a ghost on the Tutorial Beach, and you also will find another ghost in prison of Eirulan. These ghost may give you the clearance to proceed to the next higher mode. With DS2 v2.2 you will need to be at least level 36 resp. level 60 to enter veteran resp. elite mode, and with the addon/v2.3 level 44 resp. level 70 is required. To enter the Broken World map you need to be level 36 for the Mercenary mode, level 64 for the Veteran mode or level 86 for the Elite mode. | Δ |
| ||
Q: | I have heard about yellow potions dropping sometimes with this mod!? What are they used for?
A: | Yellow potions are able to completely recharge your current power within two seconds. Whether or not they drop depends on the existance of war pedestals usually. | Δ |
| ||
Q: | After leveling half a year non-stop my char is level 99 finally. And now i have seen an adjusted monster with level 101 - but how can this be? And could i reach a level above 100 too?
A: | Rather accidentally monsters may get a level beyond 100 sometimes. Generally your char will remain level 100 or close around it, more is not useful anyway since in the default game there is a techical limit at level 103 and above that your str/dex/int stats won't grow any longer. In this context, there are actually mods that allow char levels much above level 100. If you intend to use such mods then better check their description to know how the levelling above level 100 is handled and how many risks there may be for your savegame. | Δ |

A: | Yes it's possible supposed you choose the right variant of the four Rune of Mending. Two of them will serve as permanently locally placed objects (one invisible, the other visible with effects). Also there is a 'take away' variant. These three varaints are all initially active, the one form the shop must be in possession of a party member first. Please see the readme for the corresponding template names. Of couse don't forget to inform the player to install this mod too when installing your map. | Δ |
| ||
Q: | I'm working on a map and there is a really critical quest monster with a monster level that must remain as it is. How to solve this matter?
A: | You can deny the adjustment by setting a gobit called monster_adjust_denied on true (eg. from inside any flick or skrit) or by adding the following into your monster's template: [global_string] { screen_text = monster_adjust_denied; } Note, this also will work to protect containers (chests, barrels, etc.) although they are no monsters. | Δ |
| ||
Q: | I'm mapping too and i think these kiddy exp-jewels will take away all attention form my map!
A: | You partially can control the behaviour of the mod with help of a special configuration table. There is a special setting to disable exp-jewels (to use the normal exp rewarding manner instead). In this context note maybe, the support for the normal exp rewarding has been found and added months later when exp-jewels already have become familiar default and typical trait for this mod, however handle it as you want, just don't forget to inform the player about it. | Δ |
| ||
Q: | Where can i download the MonsterLevel Adjustment mod?
A: | General information and download link you would find at the regular download site. | Δ |
